0 Dog Training Tutorial HOUSETRAININGHouse-training is often the first thing most dogs need to learn as they become part of a new family. Since this is something I have been getting numerous requests for – I decided to do a video on it.

There is some additional information on housetraining (tips) that I did not include in the video which is available on my Facebook page under the discussions section.

***NOTE***
All this information assumes that the dog in question is in good health and not suffering from any sickness/disease. Sometimes lack of bladder and bowel control is a result of ill health and if you suspect that this might be the case with your dog, please immediately consult your vet to rule out any such possibility.

It is also assumed that the dog is not struggling with fear-based elimination. As is often the case with some dogs, the goal in these instances would be to tackle the issue of fear/anxiety in addition to following all the advice given in the video. Unfortunately, the details in these situations are specific and unique to the dog – so the best approach is to contact a professional dog trainer who uses positive reinforcement only, to assess and determine the most appropriate course of action.

    Hi. I’m very …
Hi. I’m very impressed with your training method, and I’m going to put it into practice right away with my dog that I just adopted. He is a 10 month American Akita, I love the dog, he is very calm friendly and he doesn’t show any signs of aggressive behavior, he even wants to play with other dogs most of times.
I know they are a very challenging and potentially dangerous dogs, that’s exactly why I like your method. Do you have any tips for potentially dangerous dogs ?

    Keep up the good work!

I do have one question about the leash on: I just brought home a 7 week old GSD, should I use a leash on him at this young age already? How do you keep the leash on him all the time? Could you elaborate on this part of the process?

Otherwise, all is clear, thanks again!

so i just got 2 pomeranian puppies and one of them is 1 and a half years old and the other is 8 months. they have accidents in the house still but when we bring them out they poop and pee on the cement rather than on the rocks. i thought that hopefully they would learn from our other dog who is a maltese to eventually go on the rocks but no luck so far. do u think they will eventually learn to go on the rocks or not? and what should i do to teach them to go on the rocks instead?

Too much freedom was definitely a mistake of mine. I’ve been keeping him leashed for the passed week. Here’s to a clean puppy.

    Have the leash in …
Have the leash in your hand. The object is to constantly supervise the dog when it’s out of its crate so that you can see when it has to go, and redirect them to the outdoors.

  23. sequoyahbean says:

    Usually, when …
Usually, when something goes wrong, it’s usually due to inadequate supervision. Dogs that are not yet clean in the house should have no freedom in the house without being on a leash! If you cannot watch the dog, then put the dog in a crate. Go back to a shorter schedule. Sometimes I take the dog out every fifteen minutes, and if they don’t go, they are placed back in the crate for ten minutes, then taken out again. Rinse, repeat until puppy goes, then give food treat with praise.
